So my dad text messaged me the other day and sent me this picture. It’s a Navy pin he picked up in Chicago at my graduation from boot camp. He works for a local PD and he asked if he would be alright representing his daughter and the United States Navy on his collar. I thought that was pretty rad; now he carries around a little piece of me every day at work. It’s a pretty good feeling to know he’s proud :)

I’ll tell you, two of the most important things finally happened for me: A much overdue pedicure and an alcoholic beverage!

I missed feeling like a girl in bootcamp. That was one of the hardest things to deal with, but in the end I was grateful to be treated as an equal in the RDC’s eyes.

I also missed feeling like a grown up and being able to have a drink or two. So as you can imagine, this first beverage shared with my wonderful friend Abby was absolutely amazing! We didn’t go overboard or get too crazy, but we definitely had a good night as adults!

Sitting in my room…

It’s so funny how last August I was wondering what this moment was going to feel like and now I’m here! I waited 6 months to get into boot camp and let me tell you it was anguishing.  And once I got there all I wanted to do was get my happy ass back home.  I’m not going to sit here and say it was easy because it wasn’t. It was, by far, one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through. But was it worth it? Hell yes!

Now I’m sitting here in Pensacola, FL getting paid to sit here and wait for my class to begin. I have a comfy bed, big enough room, a hot shower that I can stay in for as long as I want, three hot meals a day, and enough people to keep me entertained. I’m pretty content.

I’m also looking forward to tomorrow. It will be the first day since February 21st that I will be able to sleep in for as long as I want. I can’t fucking wait.
